1 September 2021 ( Updated 10 May 2024 )
Rules and Guidelines ( Subject To Change )
1. These group chats are made for the purpose of travelling, meet-ups, making new friends and shared interests, if you have joined for any other purposes this is not your place.
2. Please use common sense. Always be respectful and polite.
3. When replying to a specific comment from a person, use the “reply” function to make sense of your comment and avoid confusion.
4. NO jokes, religious comments (regardless of intention), hate speech, racism, politics, vulgar language, adult material or anything that may be considered controversial, offensive or hurtful to anyone is allowed.
5. NO advertising will be allowed on this group unless approved by admins. Only admins may post the advertisement.
6. For the benefit of the majority as well as international members, only English will be permitted in the group.
7. NO forwarded news or alert items to be posted unless directly related to the purpose of this group. These items MUST be verified and from a trusted source.
8. Before sending a complaint to a group, identify the “administrator” and share your thoughts with him/her.
9. Please remember that admins may not always be able to respond immediately and that they will as soon as they can.
10. Be mindful that there may be users of all ages within the group. As a reminder Minimum age to be part of Travel Project groups is 18 years old.
11. Admins reserve the right to remove members who won’t adhere to these rules and/or Admins’ instructions.
12. Due to circumstances and incidents, these rules may be amended and changed from time to time. Group members will be advised of these changes. By remaining in the group you will be considered as having read, understood and agreeing to these changes.
13. If a group member has been warned about behaviour on the group before, they may be removed without notice if the offence is repeated or any other offence is committed.
14. Look, we all like banter, but we despise bullies. Never make anyone feel inferior. We are all going through things, more things than people would ever like to know. So have in mind that treating people with respect is key. If you want to take it a step further, be motivational about your communication. Encouragement and empowerment can go a long way in a WhatsApp group.
15. This relates to the last point but is more about how you conduct yourself in the group. When participating in group activities think about how you would feel if someone deliberately was ignoring you, or giving you short answers etc. You may have an opinion of that person but that doesn’t mean you should reflect it on the group. Just share your views with another member with a bit similar mindset, or more strategically to someone who is not part of Travel Project. However, a public WhatsApp group is not the best way to express that humanness. Within the group chats it is important to treat everyone with respect.
It is advisable to “mute” the group chat. The posts will still show up on your phone but it will not make a sound or vibrate. If we all respect each other and adhere to these rules we should not have any problems.
By agreeing to this, you are accepting that you are solely responsible for your posts and that TRAVEL PROJECT EVENTS, its team and members will not be liable for the posts made by individuals. By being a member of this (or any other group chat administered by Travel Project or it’s duly appointed admin, you are agreeing to abide by these rules and policies. This includes the admins and members. To this end, a stance of no tolerance will be taken.
Before posting, ask: Is this relevant? Is this necessary? Is this a good time to post? If in doubt, contact the group admin.
And once again, see rule 1.
